Family - Unknown Best known For: His bold stand for God in spite of fierce opposition. He boldly stood for God when none would stand with him. Outline of Elijah's Life I. Predicted a drought for Israel (I Kings 17:1-7) II. Was humbled and provided for in the wilderness, and God provides in miraculous ways (I Kings 17:8-24) III. Confronted Ahab face to face, and challenged the Prophets of Baal to a showdown (I Kings 18) IV. Flees Jezebel and goes into despair (I Kings 19:1-18) V. Calls Elisha (I Kings 19:19-21) VI. Called Ahab to repentance of his sins (I Kings 21:17-29) VII. He calls down fire from heaven against the king's army (II Kings 1) VIII. Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind to heaven (II Kings 2:1-14) Lessons to be learned from Elijah's life 1. A man of God must be humbled before he can be used greatly in His service. 2. It is better to speak the truth and be with God than to hide behind lies. 3. We should have faith in the power of God, as Elijah did when facing the prophets of Baal. 4. At times even the greatest of prophets fall into despair. 5. God rewards steadfastness. |
