"The Freeness of Salvation"
-Outline used, New Hampshire Confession
Pastor Michael Calhoun

One of the greatest truths presented in the scriptures is that the blessings of salvation are offered to every
man, woman, and child without cost. Each person may receive these blessings through a genuine, penitent,
and obedient faith in Jesus Christ. Nothing prevents the salvation of the vilest sinner on earth but his own
inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the gospel; which rejection involves him in an aggravated
condemnation.

I. The blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel.

"Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea,
come, buy wine and milk without money and without price" - Isaiah 55:1

"And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come.
And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." - Revelation 22:17

"Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper
time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready." - Luke 14:16-17

II. In order to receive the blessings of salvation one must come to God with a genuine, penitent, and obedient
faith.

"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made
manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made
known to all nations for the obedience of faith:" - Romans 16:25-26

"And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." - Mark
1:15

"So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed
of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first,
and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The
just shall live by faith." - Romans 1:15-17

III. Nothing prevents the salvation of the vilest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary
rejection of the gospel.

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye
will not come to me, that ye might have life." - John 5:39-40

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often
would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye
would not!" - Matthew 23:37

"But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at
that stumblingstone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." - Romans 9:31-33

"Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set
at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when
your fear cometh;" - Proverbs 1:24-26

IV. The rejection of the gospel involves a sinner in an aggravated condemnation.

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath
not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into
the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." - John 3:18-19

"Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been
done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes." - Matthew 11:20-21

"And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty
angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord
Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the
glory of his power;" - II Thessalonians 1:7-9
